What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are trained medical professionals who graduate from accredited four-year medical schools, where they study both conventional medical sciences and natural therapies. NDs diagnose, prevent, and treat acute and chronic conditions using an individualized approach that identifies root causes rather than simply suppressing symptoms. They integrate evidence-informed natural therapies—including therapeutic nutrition, botanical medicine, and lifestyle counseling—with conventional diagnostic tools to support the body's inherent healing abilities and empower patients to take an active role in their health. What is a FABNG?
Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Gastroenterology (FABNG) represents the highest level of specialized training in naturopathic digestive health. To earn this credential, naturopathic doctors must complete rigorous requirements including a gastroenterology-focused residency or minimum 1,800 patient contact hours, submit clinical cases to a board of experts, and pass a comprehensive board exam. FABNGs are uniquely trained to address complex digestive conditions—from inflammatory bowel disease to microbiome imbalances—using both evidence-based natural therapies and conventional treatment approaches, with a focus on identifying root causes and treating the whole person.
